Balayage vs Traditional Highlights
Balayage and Highlights are the two most requested blonding services, but they produce totally different results. Learn the difference between 'lived-in' dimension and 'to-the-root' blonde before you book.
Traditional highlights take the brightness all the way to the scalp, which inevitably creates a harsh line as your natural hair grows. The modern trend shifted toward techniques that soft-blend the root, allowing the hair to grow out gracefully.
We recommend Highlights for clients who want maximum brightness right to the scalp and don't mind strict 6-8 week maintenance. We recommend Balayage (or Foilyage) for clients who want a low-maintenance, sun-kissed look that can last 4-6 months.

How Galeo Guides This Journey
Every concern needs a thoughtful treatment path. We use consultation, skin or treatment assessment, and realistic planning to guide clients toward the most suitable next step.
Traditional Highlights (Foils)
Highlights involve weaving sections of hair and painting them in foil right up to the root. This provides maximum lift and a very bright, consistent blonde from root to tip. The trade-off is a high-maintenance schedule, as you will see a clear line of demarcation when your natural roots grow.
Balayage (Hand-Painting)
Balayage is a French term meaning 'to sweep'. The lightener is hand-painted onto the surface of the hair in a sweeping motion, leaving the root darker and naturally blended, and concentrating the brightness on the mid-lengths and ends. It mimics how the sun naturally lightens children's hair.
The Ultimate Low-Maintenance Colour
Because Balayage leaves your natural root intact (or incorporates a 'root melt' gloss), the grow-out is completely seamless. Many of our balayage clients only need a full lightening service twice a year, popping in simply for a fast Toner or Gloss in between.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is balayage more expensive than highlights?
The initial appointment is often more expensive as it requires highly specialized technique, more product, and longer application time. However, it is cheaper long-term because you only need it done 2 or 3 times a year.
Can I get balayage if I have very dark hair?
Yes, balayage looks beautiful on brunettes! We can paint soft caramel, mocha, or bronde dimension that adds incredible movement without looking fake.
Does balayage damage the hair less?
Generally, yes. Because we are not lightening the hair directly against the highly-porous scalp, and we are often using an open-air clay lightener rather than incubating it in foil, the process can be gentler.
