Why have a trial
Your wedding makeup needs to last from the morning to the last dance and look right both in person and in photos. A trial lets you test the look before the day, so there are no surprises when time is short.
When to book it
We recommend booking your trial 2 to 6 weeks before your wedding. That leaves time to adjust the look and to line it up with your hair trial, so you can see the full result together.
What to bring
- Reference photos of looks you like, and any you don't.
- Details of your dress, especially the neckline, so your foundation can be matched to your neck and chest as well as your face.
- Your ceremony and reception times. A daylight ceremony and an evening reception can need slightly different finishes.
- Your own foundation, if a dermatologist has prescribed a specific formula. Tell us about any sensitivities or allergies when you book.
How to prepare your skin
Arrive with clean skin and your normal lightweight moisturiser. Avoid heavy facial oils or new active serums on the day. If you are planning brow waxing, dermaplaning or a facial peel, book it at least 5 to 7 days before any makeup appointment, never the day before. Wear a button-down shirt or robe so you don't pull clothing over your face afterwards.
What the trial tests
Your artist will check how your foundation wears through the day, try eye colours and lip shades in natural daylight, and agree whether you want a soft-glam or full-glam finish. Strip or cluster lashes can be included if you want them. By the end, you should know the look, the products and how long your wedding-morning appointment will take.
After the trial
Wear the makeup for the rest of the day if you can, and take photos indoors, outdoors and with flash. Note anything you would change and tell your artist before the wedding.
