Remove the hair in sections
Wax removes hair from the root. Tell the therapist if the heat or removal feels uncomfortable; the area and method should be adjusted where necessary.
Check the skin
Before dressing, discuss redness, suitable skin care and clothing that will not rub the treated area.

Before your appointment
- Explain when you last shaved or waxed so the therapist can assess whether there is enough regrowth.
- Mention retinoids, acne medication and recent peels. Do not wax sunburned or broken skin, or change prescribed medication without advice.
After your appointment
- While the skin is irritated, avoid hot bathing and friction; a cool compress can help with discomfort.
- Use a gentle moisturiser suitable for your skin. Persistent redness, swelling or worsening pain needs assessment rather than more waxing.
- Avoid rubbing the upper lip or applying a cosmetic that stings while the skin is tender.

Will upper lip waxing cause my hair to grow back thicker or darker?
No! Waxing removes hair directly from the root follicle, which actually weakens the root over time. Your hair will grow back feeling softer, finer, and sparser with regular monthly sessions.
Can I get a lip wax if I use Retinol or acne treatments?
If you are using active skin-thinning ingredients like Retinol, Retin-A, Glycolic Acid, or prescription acne medication (like Accutane), you should avoid lip waxing as it can lift or tear delicate skin. Please inform your therapist before your session!
How long does redness last after a lip wax?
Mild redness is completely normal and typically disappears within 15 to 45 minutes. We apply a cooling post-wax treatment to speed up skin recovery before you leave the salon.
