Spray Tan Excellence: The Streak-Free Guide

What causes streaks

A spray tan is applied as a fine, even mist, so most streaks and patches come from what happens afterwards:

• Water or sweat on the skin while the tan is developing.
• Tight clothing, straps or shoes rubbing against the skin.
• Dry areas such as knees, elbows, ankles and hands, which absorb more colour.
• Scrubbing during the first shower.

During the appointment

Wear dark underwear, a bikini or disposable garments for the application. Your technician applies the tan with an airbrush for an even, full-body result. A spray tan gives colour without UV exposure, unlike a sunbed session.

Straight afterwards

• Change into dark, loose-fitting clothing and slip-on sandals. Tight jeans, bra straps and closed shoes can leave marks.
• Avoid exercise, hot rooms and anything that makes you sweat while the tan develops.
• Keep your hands dry, and avoid washing dishes or swimming.

Your first rinse

When it is time for your first shower, rinse gently with lukewarm water and no scrubbing. Some guide colour washing off is normal; the developed tan stays. Pat yourself dry instead of rubbing.

Keeping it even as it fades

Moisturise daily with an oil-free body lotion, paying attention to dry areas. Avoid exfoliating scrubs and long baths, which make the tan fade patchily. A spray tan typically lasts 7 to 10 days. For a smooth start next time, exfoliate the day before your appointment and shave or wax 24 to 48 hours ahead.
